The Aihe/Dolphin was one of many guardians that protected Māori on their voyage across the ocean. The ocean is a very significant part of Māori culture and history. Our ancestors voyaged to Aotearoa/New Zealand over the Te Moana Nui a Kiwa (Pacific Ocean) many centuries ago.
